NAZI ATTACKS ON NEUTRAL SHIPPING
CAMPAIGN INTENSIFIED.
MORE VESSELS SUNK. The following Daventry reports have been relayed by the Nev; Zealand national stations: — The German campaign against neutral shipping is being intensified. An Estonian steamer carrying timber and bound for Antwerp has been captured by a German destroyer off the Swedish coast. A Swedish ship of 2600 tons en route from Finland to the United States with wood pulp has been sunk. A Norwegian ship of 5000 tons struck a mine while entering Singapore Harbour. It is stated that the captain failed to obey signals from a naval patrol boat. IMPERIAL WAR CONFERENCE. Mr Anthony Eden, Dominions’ Secretary, has announced that Australia, New Zealand, Canadia and South Africa arc each sending a Cabinet Minister to London to confer as soon as practicable. The conference, he said, would be of great benefit to the Dominions and Great Britain. In an official! statement issued after the announcement, it was stated that the meeting would be for the purposes of consultation only. Mr Chamberlain’s statement has met with the almost unanimous approval of the British Press.
Russian troops are reported io have entered Chinese territory in North China.
The Reichstag will meet at noon on Friday to hear a Government declaration.
A French submarine has captured and brought back to port a German merchant ship.
