“HITCH HIKE LADY.” There are laughs galore in “HitchHike Lady,” co-starring Alison Skipworth and Arthur Treacher, which will be shown tonight at the Cosy “guest session.” This is the story of a widowed old lady who sets out from England to visit her son at the “San Quentin” Rancho, quite oblivious of the fact that he is really in the San Quentin Gaol. She becomes a hitchhiker because she falls in with a thief who promises to take her across America by car for thirty dollars, and then leaves her stranded. Kindly, and both honest and dishonest people assist her —Mae Clarke and Jimmy Ellison being the honest young people, and. Arthur Treacher and Warren Hymer are the kindly crooks. Arthur Treacher is quite magnificent in his scheming in trying to get “mother” —as they all now affectionately call her—to her destination. The other chief attraction is “Let’s Make A Night of It,” the spectacular musical film. It is essentially a gay, irresponsible production, containing something to charm all tastes. Although it has been described as a “film revue” —which indeed it is, since it contains a cast of variety favourites | never before seen together in one single entertainment —it has a strong story interest. Buddy Rogers and June Clyde, the two young American stars, play the leading roles in "Let’s Make a Night of It.”
