« JOHNSONVILLE SALE COWS FIRMER IN PRICE. DEMAND FOR PRIME HOGGETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An average yarding of bullocks and a small yarding of cows and heifers were forward at the sale conducted in Johnsonville yesterday. No runners and vealers were offered. Extra prime heavy bullocks met with a ready sale, with little alteration in price, and mediumweight bullocks were firm on late rates. Taking into account the quality of the cows and heifers, prices were 5s a head firmer than those ruling .last week.'
No prime heavy wethers were forward, the balance of the yarding comprising chiefly medium and lightweight sheep. There was a good demand for prime quality wethers, prices showing no alteration, though unfinished sheep were not wanted. Some exceptionally good quality heavyweight ewes were penned. These sold with prices on a par with those ruling up country. Plain ewes were easier by Is to Is 6d a head. Prime quality hoggets met with keen competition, with prices firm on those ruling last week. Plain sorts were hard to quit. The quality of the spring lambs was good, prices showing no alteration. Prices are: —
Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l7 10s to £l6 ss. prime heavy £l5 15s to £l5 ss, heavy £l5 to £l4 10s, light and unfinished, £l2 10s to £ll ss; extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £l3 to £l2. prime heavy £ll 12s 6d to £lO 10s. cows and heifers £9 15s to £9 ss; small calves. £1 Ils to 12s Gd.
Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, woolly, 31s 6d to 28s, prime heavy 27s 6d to 26s 3d, medium 24s Gd to 23s 3d; four and six-tooth ewes, 26s 6d to 255; prime extra heavy ewes, 24s 3d to 22s 6d, prime heavy 22s to 21s, medium 20s 7d to 18s, shorn 16s 7d to 14s; heavy hoggets 28s to 22s 3d, light 21s to 18s 7d; heavy spring lambs. 26s Gd to 245, medium 22s Gd to 20s.

FAT CATTLE PRICES EASIER.
CHRISTCHURCH, October 4.
Entries at the Addington sale showed an increase today. Fat cattle eased in value by up to 20s, a head on the high rates recently ruling, but fat sheep showed an increase.
Store sheep: Good, strong-woolled ewe hoggets made to 28s 6d; best ewes and lambs, 11s Gd to 12s Gd, all counted; wether hoggets. 14s to 18s 3d. Spring lambs: Seventy of these averaged lOd to Is a lb. Fat sheep: The sale was firmer from the outset, and prices were higher than the average of last week by 2s 6d a head, the sale being one of the best of the season. Prime wethers sold from 42s to 455, with tops from 48s to 51s 6d, good medium weights from 35s to 40s, and light down to 265; best ewes 34s to 38s. with tops from 40s to 445. medium prime 29s to 335, inferior down to 21s. The first shorn sheep of the season were forward. Fat cattle: West Coast and ’ Otago truck lots and others from South Canterbury assisted to make a betterquality yarding. The market eased on the recent high rates by up to 20s a head. Prime beef made from £l9 to £23, with several pens of tops from £24 to £2G 7s 6d, prime medium weight down to £l6, ordinary from £l3 to £l5 10s; best heifers £l4 to £l6 10s: cows. £l2 to £l4. There was some resentment, but at little change, and baconqrs sold spiritedly. Porkers made 47s Gd to £3 6s Gd, average price a pound 71d to 8:;d; baconers £3 8s Gd to £5 14s Gd, average a pound 7d to Bd. ' MASTERTON SALE I — FAT SHEEP PRICES MAINTAINED. Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly sale held yesterday as follows: —A good yarding of all classes of sheep came forward and met with a spirited sale from a large attendance of buyers. The prices for fat sheep were fully maintained on late rates, and store sheep made prices slightly ‘in excess of those ruling of late. A good clearance was effected under the hammer, and the following will indicate values: —Woolly fat ewes, 18s 7d to 20s; woolly fat wethers, 27s 6d to 28s 6d; good fat woolly hoggets. 22s 4d; fat woolly hoggets, 18s 6d to 19s lOd; fat shorn ewes, 14s Id; fat shorn maiden ewes, 16s 7d; light do., 12s to 13s; good fat shorn wethers, 21s 6d. Store sheep: Good woolly ewe hoggets, 24s Id to 26s Gd; small do., 16s lOd to 19s lOd; good woolly wether hoggets, 17s 4d to 17s 9d; woolly 2-th wethers. 18s lOd to 20s; shorn 2-th wethers, 14s lOd; b.f. hoggets, 13s 9d to 15s Gd. Pigs.—Good weaners, 24s to 27s 6d; weaners, 20s to 225; porkers, £2 5s to £2 14s. One hill hack, £ll 10s.
