RANDWICK MEETING CRAVEN PLATE TO HIGH CASTE. TRUENESS WINS GIMCRACK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY. October 4. Ladies' day at Randwick today was favoured with fine weather. Although a shower of rain fell before the first race, the course was in splendid order, and the racing was most interesting. The Gimcrack Stakes, for fillies, in which 22 started, provided a dazzling finish between Trueness and Dark Elegance. The former triumphed by half a head. New Zealand had no actual representative. Olympus was withdrawn from the Suburban Handicap, which the consistent Newcastle gelding. Red Thespian, won narrowly from Bra mol.

The Craven Plate was won brilliantly by High Caste, who had the leader’s. Beau Vite, measure at the home turn. The winner simply outclassed his rivals, although Beau Vite ran a game race.

Gold Rod was a complete disappointment. Moorsotis again showed no dash, and finished a poor sixth in the Members’ Handicap. The attendance was 23,000, compared with 27.000 last year. Results were:— The Second Hurdle Race, about 2m and 3f: El Banado, 10.7 (Robinson) 1; First Son, 10.1 (Hood) 2; Exning, 9.4 (Ellis) 3. Six started. In a thrilling finish El Banado won by a head, with 10 lengths between second and third. Time, 4.231. Lockslea and Mag Mort fell, arid Syntax lost his rider.

Craven Plate, IJm: High Caste. 7.11 (Bartie) 1; Beau Vite. 7.11 (Cook) 2; Gold Rod, 9.4 (McCarten) 3. L'Aiglon was scratched. Gold Rod and Seven Fifty led the field over a mile, with High Caste and St Constant' two lengths away, and Beau Vite last. Beau Vite moved up smartly at the three furlongs and at the home turn went to the front, hotly challenged by High Caste, who drew away in the straight and won going away by a length and a half, with Gold Rod four lengths off third;, then came St Constant and Seven Fifty. Time, 2.4.

Gimcrack Stakes, sf: Trueness, 8.5 (Bartie) 1; Dark Elegance, 8.5 (McMenamin) 2; Happy Bay, 8.5 (Ashmore) 3. Twenty-two started. Half a head; head. Haridelle was fourth.

Suburban Handicap, Im: Red Thespian, 8.3 (Bartie) 1; Bramol, 8.13 (MeMenamin) 2; Knight Folly, 7.10 (Harvey) 3. Fifteen started, including The Squire. Half a head; one length and a half. Breeze was fourth. Time, 1.37.

Members’ Handicap, Ijm: Katanga, 8.6 (W. Cook) 1; Pannade, 7.6 (Hughes) 2; Dashing Cavalier, 9.1 (Coutts) 3. Thirteen- started, including Moorsotis, who finished sixth. Won by threequarters of a length, with Dashing Cavalier a length away. Time, 2.4 J. Sydney Handicap, l-*,m: Own Folk, 7.8 (W. Cook) 1; Head Check, 6.11 (Podmore) 2; L’Aiglon, 8.9 (Munro) 3.
