The Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) stated today that the aircraft and equipment of all aero clubs were being taken over by the Royal New Zealand Air Force. So far the aircraft belonging to the Wellington, Auckland, Otago and Southland aero clubs have been taken over and values placed on the aircraft and equipment.
All aero club flying ceased, by direction of the Government, on September 25, and it is anticipated that all. aero club aircraft will have been taken over by the middle of October. The Minister paid a tribute to the cooperation shown by the Royal New Zealand Aero Club, which had agreed that amounts owing to aero clubs should stand free of interest until the termination of the war. This generous gesture was warmly appreciated by the Government.
