HOMING PIGEON CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. RACE PROGRAMME DRAWN UP. At the annual meeting of the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club officers were elected for the ensuing year, and the race programme for old bird events was drawn up. Mr W. J. Miller was elected secretary in place of Mr V. H. Stears, whose resignation was accepted with regret. The chairman (Mr C. J. Douglas) paid a glowing tribute to Mr Stears’ capabilities in the field of finance, and to his unselfish and untiring efforts in matters pertaining to club activities. The first race of the season was flown from Hunterville, 80. miles .airline distance. Sixty-three birds were liberated in fine weather, and the first six places for club points were: —I. Mayes’s “Sherwood,” 2hrs 16min 59sec, 1; Stears and Miller’s “Red Surprise,” 2hr 18min 44sec, 2; Stears and Miller's “Grizzly,” 2hr 21min 33sec, 3: C. J. Douglas’s “Dewar,” 2hr 21min 40sec, 4; C. J. Douglas’s "Abelard,” 2hr 23min 3sec, 5; W. Steer’s “Blue Rocket,” 2hr 31min 33sec, 6. The second race scheduled from Ohakune, 110 miles airline, owing to an error in consignment, was flown from Feilding 50 miles. The birds were liberated in a strong easterly wind and the first six- arrivals were; — T. Hirst’s “Agrian” Ihr 23min 48secs. 1;T. Hirst’s “Limerick,” Ihr 24min 12 sec, 2; W. J. Miller’s “Red Spark,” Ihr 24min 22sec, 3; Stears and Miller’s “Red Comet,” Ihr 24min 41sec, 4; Stears and Miller’s “Young Grizzly,” Ihr 25min 38sec, 5; I. Mayes’s “Old Reliance” Ihr 27min 14sec. The final of the three short races was flown on Saturday from Hunterville. Fifty-seven birds werp liberated in glorious weather, the velocity averaging nearly 50 miles per hour. The first six placings were:—C. J. Douglas’s “Lady Dix,” Ihr 57min 30sec, 1; I. Mayes’s “White Wing,” Ihr 58min 35 sec, 2; C. J. Douglas’s “Oliver Twist,” Ihr 58min 41sec, 3; T. Hirst’s “Le Teueur,” Ihr 58min 55sec, 4; W. Steer’s “Kokotu,” Ihr 58min 56sec, 5; W. Steer's “Laidlaw,” Ihr 59min Isec, 6. The next race will be for yearlings only from Taumarunui, 150 miles airline.
