RURAL HOUSING
AMENDED BILL PASSED.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) • WELLINGTON, This Day.
Several amendments were made to the Rural Housing Bill during the committee stage on the measure in the House of Representatives yesterday. The Minister of Housing, Mr Armstrong, explained that most of these were the outcome of suggestions made during the second reading debate. The clause limiting the maximum that may bp advanced to £750 was struck out, and the total amount that may be ad vanced is to be left to the State Advances Corporation and the county councils concerned.
The Minister also said that another amendment provided that if a local body did not like to exercise its borrowing authority, a farmer could go straight to the State Advances Corporation. The houses built under the Bill would not come under the Rent Restriction’ Act or the Fair Rents Act. The Bill was read a third time and passed.
