The British United Press representative in Paris says it is authoritatively reported that the Russian and German news agencies announced that Russia and Germany would make a peace offer to the Allies some time today. A Daventry broadcast at 11 o’clock last night staled that there had been no official reaction in London up till then to the Russo-German pact, but Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent forecasts the following: — • (1) Mr Chamberlain, in a recent statement, said that the Russian invasion of Poland would not alter the determination of Great Britain and France to prosecute the war till their aims had been achieved. (2) The Russo-German pact while suggestion consultation with friendly powers for peace moves, excluded any interference in the Polish settlement. (3) Though the pact envisaged consultations. it only considered German and Russian aims.

(4) It would not be easy for neutral powers to discuss peace proposals and ignore the rape of Poland.
