DEPARTING RECRUITS
PUBLIC FAREWELL ARRANGED. GATHERING AT STATION. Arrangements have been made to publicly farewell the first batches of recruits who are leaving Mastei’ton next week to go into camp. The Masterton Municipal Band will head the parades to the station, where the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, will farewell the men. The first batch will be leaving early on Tuesday morning but the hour of their departure precludes anything in the nature of a ceremony. These men are proceeding to Burnham Camp. On Tuesday afternoon, however citizens will have an opportunity of farewelling a quota proceeding to Trentham Camp by the afternoon mail train while on Wednesday morning another party will be leaving by the morning mail train for Ngaruawahia. These will also be publicly farewelled. Additional enlistments in Masterton. which bring the total to 248, are: L. J. Petersen (Carterton), D. L. Fraser (Martinborough), M. Benton (Featherston), C. W. V. Fountain (Featherston), V. V. Sullivan (Pirinoa).
