PETROL SUPPLIES
RESTRICTED HOURS OF SALE. ACTION BY LOCAL RESELLERS. On and after Monday next, October 2, the petrol resellers of the Wairarapa will restrict the hours of business for the sale of petrol. Garage and petrol service stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with a late night on Friday only, when pumps will be closed at 9 p.m. All stations will be closed all day on Sundays. This action has been made necessary because of the restricted trade consequent upon the oil-fuel regulations and the Wairarapa Petrol Resellers’ Association ask all motorists to secure their supplies early and so obviate any undue rush before closing time. Actually it is not a very great hardship to the motorist, but the shorter hours will reduce costs to the garage proprietor at a time when his trade has been seriously curtailed. As was indicated in an earlier report in the “Times-Age,” because of the strictly cash basis on which the oil companies are now operating, the usual terms given to motorists have also had to be curtailed. Petrol will, therefore, be sold only for cash at all garages and service stations in the Wairarapa on and after Monday next.
