RECREATION WEEK.
’PHERE should be no doubt about the popularity and success of' the Recreation Week programme which opens in Masterton tomorrow, with men’s, women’s and junior hockey games at Lansdowne in the afternoon, and a performance 01. the comedy “Lucky Dip” al the Opera House in the evening. Sporting, musical, dramatic, and other events are arranged lor several days next week and a full and varied range of attractions has been arranged for the afternoon and evening of the concluding day—tomorrow week.
An. immense amount of work has been done by those who are promoting Recreation Week and by the performers and. others taking part in the various fixtures. It may be anticipated that they will have their reward in seeing large attendances at indoor and outdoor gatherings—the more so since the public are offered the opportunity of witnessing interesting sporting fixtures and musical and dramatic performances at extremely moderate admission charges.
Tho.se who have worked and are working so well for the success of Recreation Week and for the advancement of its essential object of promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of the community are to be commended for their publiespirited efforts. It now remains for citizens young and old, as the Mayor of Masterton (Mr T. Jordan) has said, to second the efforts of the committee and performers and to derive the maximum benefit from the splendid fare that will be offered to them during the week commencing tomorrow. Even in times of the greatest and most urgent, emergency, it is necessary to bear in mind that “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Healthy recreation for body and mind is never better worth while, than in such days as this country and Iho.se with which it is associated in tlie war are now passing through. The ability to relax at the right time and in the right circumstances is a condition of airefficient and well-sustained effort. From that standpoint and others. Recreation Week has every possible claim tp public attention and support.
