A naval official participating in the salvage of the submarine Thetis expressed the opinion that Lieut.-Com-mander G. H. Bolus, commander of the Thetis, was obviously directing escape operations when he died. His body was found with the shirt sleeves rolled up. He had given his jacket to a sailor who was wearing it when the body’was recovered.
The British submarine Thetis was lost during trials off Birkenhead on June 1 last. Ninety-nine men lost their lives.
