THE MAUI POMARE
ALARMIST RUMOURS DENIED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Rumours about the Government mo-tor-ship Maui Pomare were disposed of by a statement issued yesterday by the Acting-Minister of External Affairs, Mr Langstone. The Maui Pomare, which is now in a New Zealand port, experienced engine trouble on hei recent voyage, and was assisted by the Government lighthouse steamer Matai.
Mr Langstone said that the mishap was not in any way due to malicious interference with the ship’s machinery, and that there was no injury to the crew or to the ship. The fruit cargo being brought to New Zealand was landed in good condition. The publication of the facts of the case should dispose of somewhat alarming rumours that had been circulating about the Maui Pomare, Mr Langstone added.
