RUSSIA’S POLICY
CONJECTURE IN BRITAIN. (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, September 22. It is stated in authoritative circles in London that although Russia has declared her neutrality so far as the major war is concerned, military experts would not be surprised at any developments. Russia appears to have invaded Poland in order to share the “swag,” but' it is clear that she does not trust Germany, for which reason she may possibly yet insist on a buffer State. DEFENCE OF WARSAW r EIGHTY-SEVEN NAZI PLANES BROUGHT DOWN. DESTRUCTION OF TANKS. WARSAW, September 22. M Lipinski in a broadcast stated that up to September 20 Warsaw defenders brought down 87 planes. The Poles advanced several miles to the westward. He described the destruction of German tanks by soldiers leaping on them and throwing in petrol torches. The civilian morale was excellent. Newsboys were selling papers, even during the shelling. FOREIGNERS DEPART i (Received This Day,'lo.lo a.m.) NEW YORK, September 22. An American* Press Association’s Berlin correspondent says the German command permitted about a thousand foreign consuls, attaches and business men to leave Warsaw overnight by specified roads. JOINT FRONTIER CONTROL. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) BUDAPEST, September 22. It is announced that Hungary and Germany are establishing joint frontier control at Volovec (otherwise Volocz).
