FIRE AT TE ORE ORE

MEETING HOUSE DESTROYED. SERIOUS LOSS TO MAORI RACE. A fire completely demolished the historic Te Ore Ore meeting house early yesterday morning. As far as can be ascertained everything in the building was lost. The meeting house was quite a landmark in the Te Ore Ore district and was erected 50 or 60 years ago. It contained mafiy valuable carvings and other relics associated with the Maori race. The loss, of the building and its contents is a severe one to the native community.

Proposals had been on foot during recent months for the remodelling of the building, and a fair amount of money had been raised for this purpose.
