RED STAR CLUB. ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Red Star Cricket Club to be presented to the annual meeting on Monday night: —“In presenting the annual report your committee is pleased to record the high standard maintained by both the senior and junior teams. The club again entered one senior and two junior teams in the Association's competition. The seniors finished the season on a par with Lansdowne and after, a close game they were beaten in the play off. We extend our best wishes to Lansdowne on their performances last season. The batting average was headed by W. J. Peterson with an average of 32. Bowling honours went to N. Hoar, a promoted junior, who proved the find of last season’s cricket. This player captured 40 wickets at an average of 8

runs. The Arthur Hoar Memorial Cup for the best batting average in Wairarapa cricket was again won by W. J. Peterson, while Newman Hoar was successful in winning the D. K. Logan Cup for the bowling average. We congratulate these two players and are especially proud of Newman’s effort in his first year of senior cricket. During a match against the Old Boys Club F. Hoar was successful in getting the coveted hat trick, clean bowling all his victims. The ball was suitably mounted and presented to this playei. “The junior A team performed very creditably during the season. The batting averages were headed by R. James, average 19, H. Hayes 18, and N. Williams 14. The team was exceptionally strong in bowling talent and some fine averages were secured. The honours were divided between M. Reid, 31 wickets, average G. G. Peers, .15 wickets average 9 W. Osborn, 16 wickets, average 10, and N. Williams, 29 wickets, ageragc 10. The junior B team put up some good performances against the leading teams and perhaps their best effort was in beating the A team in the first round.

The season’s most enjoyable game was again the annual Senior v Junior match. After a keenly fought game the seniors again emerged victors by one wicket. A disappointing feature of this game was the number of junior A players who failed to turn up, leaving the task of meeting a strong senior team to the junior B players. That the game was so close was mainly due to. the determined manner in which these younger players stood up to their more experienced opponents.

“Several successful dances were held during the season and we heartily thank all who helped at these functions. We deeply regret the bereavements in the families of Messrs R. Pawson, J. Renner and R. James. The sincere sympathy of all members of the club is extended to these players. We thank the Park and College custodians for supplying excellent match wickets and the Press for fully reporting all games played during the season. In conclusion we thank officers of the club for monetary donations.”

The report is signed bv Mr F. Pool (Club Captain), and Mr G. B. Peterson (Hon Secretary).
