ELECTRIC POWER
WAIRARAPA BOARD MEETING EMERGENCY COMMITTEE SET UP. LOAN FULLY SUBSCRIBED. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held ai Carterton yesterday. Those present were: Messrs A. Campbell Pearce (chairman), H. P. Hugo. F. C. Daniell. J. W. Colquhoun, S. Dalgleish and W A. Tate. In connection with the present wai in Europe the following resolutions were passed:— "That leave of absence be granted to any of the Board’s permanent employees who volunteer for service in connection with the present war in order that the positions which 'they now occupy will be available for them on their return to ordinary civil duties.” “That the Government and the Electricity Controller be advised that the Wairarapa Electric Power Board it willing and anxious to co-operate and assist in any way to meet the conditions existing as a result of the war in which the British Empire is now engaged.” Messrs Pearce, Booth and Hugo were appointed a special emergency committee.
"The full amount of the reticulation loan of £25,000 has been subscribed and, with the exception of £lOOO, all the money came from the Wairarapa district,” said the secretary-manager Mr Geo. Brown, in presenting his monthly report.
Members commented favourably on the position. Having given notice of his intention to do so, Mr Daniell moved the following resolution: —
, "That the following resolution which was passed at a meeting of the Board held on July 20, 1939, be amended so as to provide that the amount to be appropriated each year be fixed at onethird of the net profits earned during the previous year. That this Board approves of the principle and policy of appropriating each year from the net profit made during the previous yeai of an amount to be credited to a special account for the purpose of subsidising the capital cost of such extensions to serve new consumers as may be determined from time to time by the Board.” Mr Dalgleish seconded the motion which was defeated by four votes to three. Advice was received from the Power Board’s Association that the annual conference at Wellington had been postponed indefinitely.
