THREATENING AS EVER
AIR RAID MENACE IN BRITAIN SIR J. ANDERSON’S WARNING. NEED OF CONSTANT VIGILANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, September 21. The Home Secretary (Sir J. Anderson) at a Press conference, said: “The air raid menace is as threatening as ever, and it would be madness to disperse the civil defence forces, because they have not yet called into action.” The present lull, he said, was giving greater opportunities for more intensive training. It was not only a war 'of arms, it was a war of morale, demandendless endurance and patience. The civil defence preparations were based on the assumption of immediate and continued attacks and were now experiencing a period which had not been contemplated. Sir J. Anderson admitted that the toll of blackout accidents was alarming.
