WAR ENROLMENT
NEW ZEALANDERS JOIN UP IN BRITAIN MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED. PROVISION FOR. TRANSFER LATER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, September 21. A Ministry of Information communique states that more than five hundred New Zealanders resident in Britain have registered for war service. The New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan) announced that New Zealanders can be enrolled in a unit and trained here before joining the main body of the New Zealand forces. VOLUNTEER UNIT STATEMENT BY MINISTER. WELLINGTON, This Day. Confirming the report that a New Zealand volunteer unit is being trained in Britain, the Minister for Defence. Mr F. Jones, said today that arrangements had been made for the organisation of New Zealanders in Britain who were medically fit to be formed into a New Zealand military unit. In the event of the Now Zealand special force being sent overseas, this unit could be attached to it. SPECIAL FORCE OVER 12,500 MEN ENROL. WELLINGTON, This Day. Dominion enlistments for the special military force, up to 8.30 o'clock last night, totalled 12,564. The medically examined arc 9.323, of whom 5,318 and fit and 2,503 temporarily unfit.
