GERMANY’S UNSOLVED PROBLEM. EFFECT OF THE INVASION OF POLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, September 21. A Commerce Department adviser said the German invasion of Poland had destroyed one of the most impor tant sources of food. German imports of Polish food in 1938 were valued a' 38,392,000 dollars. He doubted whethc’ Germany would be able to exploit Poland's resources and provide for normal peace time food production for several years. He added that the Soviet was unable to supply Germany witn large quantities of food even normally Russia’s domestic production was in-‘-mfficient. He also drew attention t'* departmental statistics showing ; steady decline in German imports from Russia over the five years ending December. 1938. reducing from 86.544,009 dollars in 1935. to 19,036,009 dollars in 1938.
