MR POLSON & MINISTER OF SUPPLY. REFERENCES TO “MIXING IT.” (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A heated exchange between the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, and Mr Polson (Opposition, Stratford) took place during the second reading debate on the Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Polson, who was discussing the price stabilisation scheme, said the methods adopted in fixing prices for farmers’ produce were almost Gilbertian. “I don’t know whether the Minister responsible is a relative of the Sullivan of Gilbert and Sullivan fame,” said Mr Polson. Mr Holland (Opposition, Christchurch North): “He is a partner.” “The Minister is a partner jn the most grotesque burlesque we have ever seen,” added Mr Polson. Mr Sullivan: “If you will be rude. I will be rude, too.” “The Minister loses his temper on the slightest occasion,” said Mr Polson. “If he wants to mix it with me I will do it, and he can have it willingly.” At this stage the Speaker, Mr Barnard, intervened and said it should be remembered that he would have something to say.” Mr Polson: “But a threat has been thrown at me across the floor of the House.” Mr Speaker: “The honourable member has no right to talk about mixing it with the Minister.” Mr Polson: “But a threat has been held out to me.” Mr Speaker: “I think the honourable member would be well advised to proceed with his speech.” Mr Polson: “I will do so under provocation and at a disadvantage.”
