GOLF MATCH TEAM TO PLAY TUI GLEN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following players will represent Featherston in the return match with Tui Glen, at Tui Glen on Sunday (a bus will leave the Post Office at 8.15 a.m.):—• Men: W. Rowles, H. Wehipeihana, J. Ladies: Miss Williams, Miss Bloxam, Mrs Davis, Miss M. Ruane, Mrs McCarty, Mrs Lovegrove, Miss J. Ruane, Mrs Pope. Ladies’ Competitions. The following is the result of the competitions held by the ladies yesterday afternoon: — Medal: Mrs Lovegrove, 1; Mrs R. Donald, 2; Mrs Benton and Miss M. Ruane (equal), 3. Eclectic: Mrs Lovegrove, 1; Mrs Davis, 2; Miss Bloxam, 3. Mrs L. Benton won the senior championship from Miss Williams, who took her to the 21st green. BOY SCOUTS EUCHRE PARTY. There was a good attendance at the Boy Scouts'euchre party held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall' on Tuesday night. The prizewinners were: —Ladies: Mrs H. Williams, 1; Mrs Simmonds, 2. Men: Mr Skipage, 1; Mrs A. Edwards, 2. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston School Committee there were present: Messrs J. W. Holland (chairman), C. C. Kenward (secretary), J. H. Higginson, W. Jeffrey, F. A. O’Neale, J. W. Henderson, C. J. Carly on, S. Murphy and C. Buck. It was reported that the credit balance stood at •' £67 19s 2d. Accounts amounting to £l6 19s Id were passed for payment. ; The Wellington Education Board forwarded a copy of the letter sent to Miss Ruth Herrick, Chief Commissioner, Girl Guides’ Association, advising that the Featherston School might not be available during the next summer vacation, as the buildings may be required for Departmental purposes. Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., forwarded a communication he had received from the Wellington Education Board in reply to his representations in regard to finalising the matter of erecting further school accommodation, which stated that the Board expected to call for tenders for the work in about ten days. An application from several parents living within the Featherston school radius of two miles asking that their children be allowed To travel in the bus provided by the Department for children at a greater distance, was considered. It was stated that the matter was beyond the control of the committee.
Mr Holland reported that he had been in telephonic communication with the Wellington Education Board in connection with extra school accommodation, and had been assured that tenders for the erection of the new rooms would be called within a few days. The school visitors reported that the primary school sadly needed a coat ol paint. The secretary was requested to write to ths Board asking that the buildings inspector be instructed to discuss the matter with t’ne c’nairman or headmaster when he next visited Featherston.
The headmaster reported that the primary school roll at the opening after the winter vacation was 279, and now stands at 283. If this number is maintained for a full month the school will be entitled to another teacher. The secondary roll stands at 68, with an excellent average attendance. Messrs Carlyon and Murphy were appointed school visitors for next month.
