LOST AIRMAN

MESSAGE IN BOTTLE FOUND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day. 9.55 a.m.) STOCKHOLM. September 20. Anole found in a bottle at Ide Fjord which reads: "S.O.S. Forced down in mid-Atlantic. If no help comes in three days I’m lost (signed) Backman." This is believed to be the last tragic call of the Swedish aviator, Carl Backman who disappeared in the Atlantic last May when flying a plane ill-fitted for an ocean flight.
