The death' occurred at Dunedin on Monday of Mrs Emma Harries, who on July 18 last celebrated her one hundred and., fifth birthday and was believed to be the oldest white woman in. New Zealand. She was born in the parish of Bermondsey on July 18, 1834, and on the occasion of her recent birthday her birth certificate was exhibited for the first time in New Zealand. Mrs Harries came to the colonies 70 years ago. settling in Australia for 20 years, where she married. In 1888 she landed at Port Chalmers. Her husband died about eight years after arriving in New Zealand.
