MINIATURE RIFLES WEEKLY COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly competition night of the Carterton Miniature Rifles Club was held last night. Next Tuesday evening the club championships will be held when two competitions will be fired, one on golf targets and the other - on 5-bull targets. It is probable that as a final shoot of the season a match will be fired on Tuesday, October 3 between former members of the club and the present day members. “PARCEL EVENING” TENDERED TO MISS W. KNUTSON. There was a very large attendance at the Dalefield Town Hall on Monday evening, the occasion being a “parcel evening” tendered to Miss Winnie Knutson in honour of her approaching marriage which will take place today. The time was taken up with dancing and at a suitable interval Mr Martin Parker asked Miss Knutson to accept and open the gift parcels which she did amid applause, disclosing many valuable’and useful articles. Mr J. Bur 1 - den. on behalf of Miss Knutson, thanked everyone for the most enjoyable function tendered them and for the gifts presented by all kind friends of the district. Mr Parker said he had another pleasant duty to perform and that was to make a presentation to Miss Knutson on behalf of the Dalefield Basketball Club, and in well chosen words he asked the guest of the evening to come forward and accept from the members of the club a toast rack. Miss Knutson gracefully acknowledged the. gift. The music for the dancing was played by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr Gordon Udv, and Mr M. Parker officiated as M. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies of the district and a most enjoyable time was brought to 'a close just after midnight. WOMEN’S DIVISION EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. A very successful euchre tournament was held in the Baud Room last evening, the proceeds from which went to the funds of the Dalefield baby in the baby carnival that is veing held to raise money for the Women’s Division’s rest room. The successful prize winners were: Ladies, Mrs Ammundsen 1. Mrs M. Martin 2. Men, Mr L. Fitzgerald 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mr J. Parker 3. The special prize of a ham for the highest score was won by Mrs J. Hooper. Personal. Miss G. "Wilson has returned to Carterton after a holiday spent in Wellington. Many Applications. Nineteen applications have been received for the position of lorry driver to the Carterton Borough Council. The appointment will be considered by the council at its next meeting.
