DAFFODIL SHOW
BRIGHT DISPLAY IN MUNICIPAL HALL ENTRIES WELL UP TO AVERAGE. MANY BLOOMS OF EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY. It is refreshing in these days of international turmoil to turn one’s thoughts to more pleasant things and in that direction the Daffodil Show of the Masterton Horticultural Society, which is being held this afternoon and evening in the Municipal Hall, provides an excellent opportunity of forgetting the major issues confronting mankind .Many exceptionally beautiful blooms of daffodils and other flowers are on exhibition and there are also decorative and photographyclasses. The entries total about 475, which is well up to the average. The judges are: Daffodils and cut flowers. Mr J. G. Wakeman (Feilding); decorative, Mrs R. Tankersley (Carterton); photography, Mr W. H. Saunders. Championships were won as follow: —Open class, trumpet, Mrs W. H. Booth; non-trumpet, F. C. Stowell; amateur class, trumpet, F. C. Stowell; non-trumpet, F. C. Stowell. The champion of champions was awarded to an Incomparabilis, Jean Hood, exhibited by Mr Stowell. Special prizes for most points in the various sections were won as follow: Open classes, daffodils, Mrs W. H. B&oth; cut flowers, Mrs B. V. Skeet; amateur classes, daffodils, J. Stalker, cut flowers, H. J. Wardell; decorative classes, Mrs Hugh Mackay and Miss Beryl Nelson, equal. The show is being officially opened this afternoon by Dr. Archer Hosking, president of the Masterton Beautifying Society and will continue this evening. Members of the committee and other officials, including the president, Mr H. L'. Esau,, and the secretary, Mr E. K. Eastwood, attended to the detail arrangements to the satisfaction of all.
