Recreation Week.

In connection with the Recreation Week basketball games in Masterton, two teams will be supplied by the Wai-, rarapa Basketball Association and not the Wairarapa College as previously stated, and two by the Y.M.C.A. Offer of Services. A decision to place the organisation of the Masterton Master Builders’ Association at the disposal of the Minister of Defence was made at a meeting of the association held last night. It was considered that the association might be able to give valuable assistance Io the Government in any building schemes connected with the present state of emergency. Optimist Club. There was a fair attendance of members at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Optimist Club held in the Y.M.C.A., when Optimist E. Esler gave an interesting description of the Tongariro National Park. The president of the club. Mr Allen Handyside, was congratulated upon a new appointment and was farewelled by Optimist Murray Finlayson, who presented a token of esteem on behalf of the club. Mr Finlayson referred briefly .to the good work Mr Handyside had done both inside the club and outside. These remarks were. endorsed by Mr McKee Wright, on behalf of the Y.M.C.A., and by the Rev T. V. Pearson. It was decided to have the annual meeting next Tuesday and all members and intending members were invited to be present for the election of officers and discussion of club affairs. In view of daylight saving coming into force next Sunday, the final meeting for this season will be hold on Tuesday, October 3. when a very bright programme has been arranged for the wind-up.
