HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD TODAY. REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH. At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board at Masterton today, the Medical Superintendent. Dr. T. L. Parr, reported that the number of patients remaining in the Masterton Hospital on July 31 was 112. During August 135 were admitted and 133 discharged, leaving a total remaining of 114. The daily average of beds occupied was 109.29. For the period April 1 to August 31, the maintenance expenditure is in excess of receipts by the sum of £4,173 4s. On capital account there is a credit balance of £1,045 19s 2d, stated the Managing-Secretary, Mr N. Lee. There is an overdraft of £1,396 17s 4d and cheques outstanding total £1,628 3s 6d, leaving an overdraft of £3,025 0s lOd. With reference to overdraft on maintenance account the following factors should be taken into consideration. The proportional estimated amount of patients fees collections for the period is £8,432. The total fees received are £5,002, leaving a deficiency of £3,430. The proportional amount of local body levy ana- subsidy thereon for the period under review was £20,078 and the amount received to date including advance on account of subsidy was £21,953, but this apparent credit would adjust itself by September 30. With reference to capital receipts and payments there was a credit balance of £1,045 19s 2d. Portion of local body levies, but no subsidy, had been received to date. Balance of proportional amount due for the period,was £3,111, and adjustments would be made in connection with capital revenue before the end of the half year. The balance of subsidy outstanding, at iyiarch 31, 1939, and amounting to £l,038, had not been received. The unexpended balance of loan funds was £3,791 10s 3d of which £3,750 was on fixed deposit. In connection with overdraft on general account it would be necessary to make application to continue authority of £7,000 for the quarter ending December 31, 1939. Eight nurses were absent during the month through sickness, reported the matron of the Masterton. Hospital. One' resignation was received. During the month Dr. Parr gave nine lectures, Dr. O’Connor five, Dr. Hosking three and Dr. Prior three.

The Masterton Hospital school was inspected during the month, and the children’s standard .was considered very satisfactory. They were allotted a special corner in the exhibition of school children’s work held in the town, and put in a very creditable display of hand work. The ambulance answered 24 calls, covering a distance of 317 miles.

During the ■ month there were fiftyfour patients admitted to hospital, forty-nine discharged and one death, leaving a total of twenty-seven patients remaining in hospital on August 31, the daily average being 25.5, reported the matron of the Greytown Hospital.
