BOROUGH AFFAIRS

OREYTOWN COUNCIL CENTENNIAL REST ROOM. WORK TO COMMENCE NEXT MONTH. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton), Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, G. F. Edgar, H. Farley, F. Wood, H. C. Trotman. H. J. Nightingale. An apology for absence was received from Councillor E. Balfour. The pound-keeper reported that no stock had been impounded during the month. The question of stray dogs was again referred to by the Mayor. He stated that the Dog Registrar had asked for a dog catcher. A letter was received from the Transport Department asking the Council for an opinion as to their making a payment towards the cost of the Traffic Inspector for work done in the Borough. Councillor Tate, moved that the matter be deferred. This was seconded by Councillor Trotman and carried. A letter was received from the Featherston Couffty Coufncil stating that the council had made a grant of £5O towards the Centennial Memorial Rest Room. The Greytown Dairy Co notified that it had made a grant Of £lO towards the Centennial Rest Room. Mr L. R. Huntley, District Scout Master, wrote offering the services of the Boy Scouts for national emergency purposes.Advice was received from Mr Reynold, surveyor of Masterton, that the survey had been completed of the site for the Centennial Rest Room. The Mayor stated that the contractor expected to commence the work next month. Mr E. B. Hawkins was appointed clerk of works. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society wrote asking the council to declare a half holiday for People’s Day of the show. This was agreed to. The Mayor stated that Mr Mark Maxton was attending his last meeting as a Press reporter. He had reported the meetings for over 40 years. Mr Maxton thanked the Mayor and Councillors for the courtesy he had received from them. The council then went into Committee.
