ROAD TRANSPORT
REVIEW OF SERVICES ORDERED ON ROUTES PARALLEL WITH RAILWAYS. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Referring to his plan for improving the efficiency of the commercial road transport industry during the war, the Minister of Transport (Mr Semple) stated today that the four transport licensing authorities would shortly be holding' public hearings to review transport licences authorising services parallel to the railways.,He had directed the licensing authorities to carry out these reviews in accordance with the provisions of the Transport legislation, because while it was not desired to take any steps that might unduly disrupt national production and trade, it was felt that anything in the way of a wasteful usage of petrol should be avoided during the war. He would like to assure any operators affected that any alterations made in their services would be for the duration of the war.. A further review would be made when hostilities ceased.
