FORMATION IN FRANCE AN AUTONOMOUS FORCE. THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS EXPECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 17. The Paris correspondent of the “New York Times” states that Polish organisations are sponsoring the formation of a Polish army in France, with the co-operation of the French Government. There are tens of thousands of volunteers from the half-million Poles throughout France, but it is announced that the Poles will be mobilised in the same way as French nationals. Thousands of volunteers are expected from among the million Poles resident in Belgium, Holland, Britain, America and Canada. The army will be an autonomous unit, with its own command, cooperating with the French General Staff. Its equipment and organisation will be identical with those of the French.
