OBITUARY
SIR W. D. HUNT

WELLINGTON. September 17.
The death has occurred of Sir William Duffus Hunt, of Wright, Stephenson and Co Ltd.
Sir William Hunt, who was chairman and Managing Director of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co Ltd. and chairman of several other important companies, was born in. Auckland in 1867. He commenced his career at Blackstone Hill Station, Central Otago, of which.he was appointed manager in 1888. In 1891 he opened a branch at Gore for Wright, Stephensons and was manager till 1896, when he opened and managed the Invercargill branch. He came to Wellington in 1918. He became a partner in the firm in 1899 and was appointed managing director in 1906, on the formation of the limited company, and chairman in 1907. He was chairman of the Public Service Royal Commission in 1912, chairman of the Taxation Committee in 1923 and a member of the Royal Commission on Taxation in 1924. He was a member of the New Zealand Board of Agriculture from 1912 to. 1918. In addition to having been a member of the Meat Export Control Board, he held a number of important commercial positions and was closely identified with the work of the breed societies. In 1935 he was appointed chairman of directors and one of the State directors of the former Mortgage Corporation. He was twice married and leaves a wife and two sons, John and William.
