FEW TWINS
FEATURE OF LAMBING SEASON. FAVOURABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS. A feature of the lambing season in the Wairarapa this year is the small percentage of twins. This is put down to some extent to be the effect of the dry weather at the beginning of the year, as a result of which the lack of freshness and nutrition in the pastures hiftl its influence on the fecundity, of the sheep. On the other hand, the position is compensated for in some degree by the fact that the single lambs are of good build and large for their age, with the prospect that there will be many early drafts of fat lambs. The weather throughout August was quite mild, except for a cold snap al the end of the month, and losses of stock this year are. it is stated, if anything belo' • normal. Farmers usually look to the jwins to balance any losses on account of the weather. On the whole, there is reason to believe that the present season will bo quite a favourable one. though it is a little early yet . to ascertain any actual lambing percentages, as docking has not been completed.
