CLAIMED BY THE GERMANS IN POLAND Attempt to Cut Defenders’ Line of Retreat BREST LITOVSK FORTIFICATIONS PENETRATED DESPERATE POLISH EFFORT REPULSED NEAR KUTNO (By Telegraph .—Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) BERLIN, September 15. A communique states that German troops suecessfulh withstood a desperate Polish attempt 1o break through in the region of Kutno. “Our troops.” the report adds, “continue to approach the Warsaw suburb of Braga from the north-east and from the south,-east. “Several unsuccessful attempts were made to pie Tee the lines of our troops marching toward Brest-Litovsk. <We have penetrated the city’s fortified zones from the north. Some forts were blown, up, but the citadel is still holding out. “In Polisli Galicia we captured the oilfields at Jaslo and Boryslav, after successfully turning the fortified ions of Przemysl.” The German right wing south of Lwow has continued to advance with motorised units towards Hordenka, in an attempt to close the Polish-Rumanian frontier and cut off the retreat of the Polish armies. Reports'indicate that the Polish line along the Carpathians is turned as far'as Stanislawow. SYSTEMATIC DESTRUCTION German Bombing of Open Towns N NO CONNECTION WITH MILITARY OBJECTIVES (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) WARSAW, September 15. A Polish communique states that the German bombardment of open towns has assumed the character of systematic destruction, all in built-up areas and cities not connected with military objectives.
