FEILDING SALE. VALUES VERY FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! FEILDING, September 15. Values were very firm in all sections of the Feilding sale held today, with a rise taking place for mutton and beef. Fat sheep: For mutton, competition was very keen, being in advance by about 2s a head on the prices of last week. A good proportion of the ewes were shorn, and these appeared to be the cheapest sheep. Extra prime woolly ewes made 26s lOd to 28s 3d, prime 24s to 25s lOd, average sorts 22s to 23s Bd. lighter 27s to 20s; prime. shorn ewes, 17s to 18s 7d; extra prime wethers 30s to 31s 6d; prime 27s to 28s 9d, average sorts 265, lighter, 21s 3d to 22s Bd, second quality, 17s 8d to 18s 3d, unfinished 12s 3d to 15s. Store sheep: A splendid sale took place for hoggets, with the best sorts in keen demand. There was a heavy penning of ewe hoggets, but all lines sold. Attractive ewe hoggets made 25s 6d to 26s 10d., good 22s 6d to 24s 6d, small 17s 9d to 19s 6d; best wether hoggets, 18s 6d to 18s 9d, second grade, 15s to 16s 6d, small 7s; average quality b.f. hoggets, Ils 3d to 13s 9d, small 10s 5d to 10s lOd; aged ewes 10s 2d to 12s 6d; culls 6s 4d; small two-tooth ewes 14s. Store cattle: An exceptionally strong sale took place for store cattle, considering the general shortness of feed. The stock yarded was in fair to good condition, meeting keen competition throughout. Good rising four-year A.A. steers made £7 7s to £9; wellgrown rising three-year steers £7 10s to £7 16s, small £5 Ils to £7 9s; good two-year A.A. steers £5 to £6, others £4 2s 6d; yearling A.A/heifers £2 14s, two-year £4 10s; A.A. cows, empty, £3 15s, Hereford £3; yearling steers, poor £2 17s' to' £3; good yearling Jersey heifers £3 to £4, others £1 18s to £2 15s; boner cows, heavy, £3 10s to £4 12s 6d, others £1 to £3 ss. Fat cattle: . A .moderate entry plus outside competition brought about a sharp rise for beef, best cows and heifers going up to £2 a 1001 b. Heavy prime A.A. cows and heifers made £ 10 to £l2 10s, lighter £8 5s to £9, light prime £8 10s to £7 17s 6d, ex-dairy cows, £4 5s to £6 15s; prime heifers £9 7s 8d to £lO' 10s, light £4 12s 6d to 8; light steers £B. Dairy cattle: Late rates ruled for dairy stock, a good clearance being made of a substantial entry. Best springing heifers made £lO to £l2, later calvers £7 15s to £9 ss, backward £4 15s to £7; heifers in milk £5; to £8 ss; cows in milk, £5 12s 6d. Pigs: Prices held very firm for all classes of pigs. Good weaners made 14s 6d to 20s; slips, 22s to 23s 6d; stores 30s to 31s. CARTERTON SALE. PRICES WELL UP TO LATE RATES. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co, Ltd, report that a good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs came forward at their Carterton sale yesterday and was offered to a large attendance. Prices were well up to late rates and a total clearance was effected. Quotations: — Sheep: Fat wethers, 27s Bd, 28s 6d to 295; fat hoggets, 19s 6d, 19s 9d, 23s 9d to 255; fat' ewes, 18s 6d, 19s 3d, 20s 6d to '2ls; fat b.f.’s, to 27s 9d; fwd ewes,.Bs 9d to Ils 3d; woolly wether hoggets, 16s 5d to 18s sd; forward wethers, 21s to 22s Id; medium wether hoggets, 13s 7d to 15s; ewes with lambs at foot (all counted), 7s 3d, 10s 4d to 14s 8d; med ewe hoggets, to 18s. Cattle: Jersey cross heifers on drop, £8 to £lO 2s 6d; spg heifers, £4 10s to £7; heifers just calved, £4 to £5; spg cows, £5 5s to £9; fat cows, £5 to £7 15s; forward cows, £3 18s to £4 16c; store cows, 30s to £2 19s; cows and calves, £2 to £3 11s; 21year empty Jersey cross heifers, £4 5s to £4 7s 6d. Pigs: Weaners (good), 23s 6d to 265, weaners (medium), 17s 6d to 235, weaners (small), 14s to 16s 6d; slips, 21s to 255; stor pigs 26s to 30s; light porkers, 31s to 355; baconers £3 to £3 15s; sows to farrow, to £5 ss.
