Training Success of Former Masterton Resident MR HARRY HILTON WELL ESTABLISHED AT CAULFIELD BRILLIANT SPRINTER UNPLACED ONCE IN ELEVEN STARTS (BY “CARBINE.”) Wairarapa race fans will be pleased to hear that Mr Harry Hilton, formerly of Masterton, is now well established at Caulfield, Victoria, as trainer to Mr W. R. Kemball, and has been enjoying a great run of successes recently with Hilton (Beau Pere—Awaken). It will be observed that the horse i.s'named after his trainer. In eleven starts since the middle of May Hilton has only on one occasion been unplaced and has seven times crossed the line ahead of the field. On:two Occasions he was second and once third—a truly remarkable record, which reflects great credit on his trainer.

The following is an extract from the Melbourne “Argus” and will no doubt prove of interest to Wairarapa followers of the Sport of Kings:— “The class of Hilton as a sprinter—if further proof were required—was demonstrated in the Whittier Handicap. “Not only did he carry 9.4 top weight on a track which had been drenched with rain and cut up by a lengthy programme of races, but he had to overcome difficulties in running which would have settled the chance of a horse less brilliant than he. “Shortly after the start a horse cannoned into him and that cost him considerable ground. He recovered well, and when an opening presented itself on the inside he Went through in a flash. “He certainly had a good run from that point, but to be able to produce another burst of speed along the straight and beat the former West Australian Tetreen, who had a handy lead turning for home, was an outstanding performance. “Limerick Lace set the pace from the start, but was beginning to feel the pressure before the turn was reached. Tetreen held on gamely, but Hilton was not to be denied. “The consistent Con Naru emerged from the bunch to run third in front of Nightguard,, who did not shape nearly as well as was hoped.”
