N.Z. DAIRY PRODUCE

TO BE SOLD TO IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT. ; ‘ NEGOTIATIONS UNDER WAY(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. AH New Zealand dairy produce is to be sqld to the Imperial Government, the chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr W. E. Hale, stated yesterday. He said also that representatives of the industry jn New Zealand had suggested to the Government that questions in dispute between it and the Government be held in abeyance till after the war. Mr Hale said it was desirable that the industry should know that representations had been made to the Government, and what action was likely to be taken, so that uncertainty could cease.

Last week the Dairy Industry Council, the body set up by the various dairy industry conferences to negotiate with the Government on questions connected with the guaranteed price, met in Wellington, he said. On behalf of the industry it had met the Minister of' Marketing, Mr Nash, and had assured him of full and wholehearted co-operation with the Government in all measures designed to assist the Mother Country during the war. They further suggested that all questions previously in dispute between the Minister and the industry be held in abeyance till after the war, and then outlined their views on the price to be paid to farmers this season, and what, would be the best method of dealing with the dairy industry under the changed conditions, so that the industry would render the greatest assistance in increasing food production. Mr Nash thanked tne council for its offer of co-pperation, and indicated that the whole of New Zealand’s dairy produce would be sold to the Imperial Government.

"It may take some time to complete those negotiations,” added Mr Hale, ‘‘but as soon as they ae finalised the Minister will make a full announcement. It is obvious that under wartime conditions New Zealand has a definite duty to the Mother Country to supply all the produce which will be so urgently required.”
