WAR SACRIFICES
GREATEST MADE BY YOUTH. POLITICAL OPPONENTS OF ONE MIND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. No doubt as to who makes the greatest sacrifice in a Avar is held by at least two returned soldier members of Parliament. Mr J. A. Hargest (Opposition, Awarua) and Mr J. A. Lee (Government, Grey Lynn) agreed heartily during the debate on the Emergency Regulations Bill in the House of Representatives yesterday that the one who sacrifices most is the soldier who goes to the front. “It is not possible Io have equality of sacrifice in a war,” Mr Hargest said.. “Those who must pay most heavily are our youth—those who. must take part in the actual hostilities—and they deserve the assurance that we who are left behind will keep the heart of the country sound.” "I hope there will be a good deal of equality of sacrifice," said Mr Lee, “and no one should be in doubt as to who sacrifices most. I have yet to know the sacrifice that anyone makes in war that will equal the sacrifice of the young man who marches.”
