PETROL SUPPLIES
COUPONS FOR PRIVATE CAR OWNERS. ISSUE STARTS TOMORROW. Tomorrow owners of private cars will be able to obtain cards of coupons at principal post offices entitling them to secure restricted supplies of petrol. It is important that owners should apply at the Post OlTice at which their cars are registered. Personal application is necessary. The procedure has been simplified as much as possible. All that the applicant lias to do is to give the, registration number of the car or motor-cycle and stale name and address. There will be no forms to fill in nor any fee to pay. The coupons are strictly nontransferable. It will be the duty of a petrol station manager or his assistant to reclaim the coupons as they are presented when a purchase is made. This wilt constitute a check on the amount of petrol any car-owner is securing. If it is ascertained that he is securing more petrol than the regulations permit. he will bo liable to prosecution LOSS OF BUSINESS GARAGES AND PETROL RESELLERS. STATEMENT LIKELY NEXT WEEK. Although it is proposed to observe shorter hours for the sale of petrol at Auckland bowser stations, no such action has been taken either in Wellington or in Masterton. According to the official view, it is stated that the best course is for garages and petrol sellers to leave matters as they are meantime. The annual conferences of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association, and of the New Zealand Petrol Resellers’ Association will be held in Christchurch on September 19 to September 21, when it is expected a statement will be made on the position. The whole question has been receiving the attention of the associations concerned, and for the present garages and others concerned are asked to have a little patifence, though it is recognised that their position is a serious one.
