FRIESIAN HEIFERS
INTERESTING PRODUCTION RETURNS. Records of particular interest to the Wairarapa district contained in the Friesian merit list for July are those made under C.O.R. test last season by the heifers, Ahikouka Pioneer Olga and Ahikouka Colantha Onyx. These two heifers were bred by the well known Wairarapa breeder, Mr O. A. Cadwallader, and when offered at the latter’s dispersal sale in June, 1938, created keen discussions as to their relative merits. When auctioned under the hammer each realised 51gns, which was the top price realised for females at the sale. Now that the heifers, both tested as junior 2-year-olds, have completed a season under C.O.R. test there is still little difference between them, Ahikouka Pioneer Olga producing 15,492.51 b milk, and 56.871 b fat and Ahikouka Colantha Onxy, 13,659.61 b milk .and 530.521 b fat. Ahikouka Pioneer Olga was purchased by Mr C. A. Knutson and Ahikouka Colantha Onxy by Mr Arch Wallace, Ngakuru, Rotorua, and is the first Friesian to be C.O.R. tested on the pumice country in this area.
