SALE AT ADDINGTON. DECLINE IN FAT SHEEP PRICES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 13. Because of the excess of entries a sharp decline in the value of fat sheep was evident of today’s Addington market. Rumours of Government action to prevent the prices of meat rising further were the cause of the overflow. A slightly brighter sale resulted for store sheep. Ewe hoggets made to 20s 6d, ewes to 255, and ewes and lambs, all counted to 14s 9d. More than 8000 fat sheep were penned, a number of lines being from the south. The market opened at 7s to 9d a head less than last week’s rates and slipped still further in the final stages by from 8s to 12s, bringing values to a lower level than those of a fortnight ago, the peak sale of the season. Best wethers made 49s lOd, good 24s to 40s; best ewes 32s to 395, good 24s to 30s. Passings were heavy toward the end of the sale. A moderate penning of 450 head of fat cattle was submitted. A few pens of the tops showed only a minor easing but. the bulk of the entry averaged about 20s a head lower. Extra prime beef, in a few cases, made to 51s a 1001 b. But the bulk of the best quality made from 45s to 48s. Best steers made from £2O to £24 12s 6d, good £l6 to £lB, and medium from £l2 to £l3. Specially good heifers made high prices, a show beast realising £22 7s 6d, but most of the average to good heifers ranged from £l3 10s to £l5, with cows £1 cheaper. There was a good sale of porkers and baconer pigs. Choppers sold from £3 18s 6d to £7 8s 7d. Porkers at £2 7s 6d to £3 5s 6d made an average price of 7£d to B£d a pound. Baconers brought £3 9s 6d to £4 19s 6d, an average price a pound of 7d to Bd. MASTERTON SALE. STORE HOGGETS IN DEMAND. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows: —To a large attendance of the public a good yarding of fat sheep and cattle were offered. Prices for cattle were at late rates, but fat sheep showed a sharp decline over last week. Store hoggets met with good competition, a rise in value in this section being mainly due to the extra good quality in this section of the sale. Pigs were in short supply and sold freely. Realisations lere as follow: — Fat cattle: —Cows, good, £9 10s, £9 15s, £9 17s 6d light, £7 7s 6d, £8 to £8 17s 6d; heifers, light, £8 to £6; runners, £5 10s. Fat sheep, prime maiden ewes, 24s to 22s 6d; prime fat ewes, 21s, 20s, 18s to 17s; prime fat hoggest, 22s 6d to 18s; light hoggets, 14s to 17s; extra prime wethers, 32s to 27s 6d; extra prime wethers, 20s, 21s 6d, 22s 9d to 245. Store sheep—Ewe hoggets, good, 265, to 27s lOd; wether hoggets, good, 20s 3d; wether hoggets, 14s to 18s. Pigs, porkers, £2 10s, weaners, 265. Dairy cattle, springing Jersey heifers, £3 7s 6d; store cows, £2.
