LEAFLET FLIGHTS

INDICATED WEAKNESS OF GERMAN DEFENCE FAILURE TO DETECT APPROACH OF PLANES.(Received This Day, 11 a.m.) LONDON, September 12. London aviation experts are greatly satisfied with the Royal Air Force leaflet raids, which indicate that the German ground defences are weak. Pilots participating in the raids state that searchlights were not operated on a single occasion, indicating that detectors had failed to register the approach of the planes. It was not until the leaflets fluttered down that the defences came into action. The antiaircraft batteries apparently were weak, and did not attempt a barrage. It is pointed out, however, that there would be a real test only if important military objectives were bombed.
