IN BATTLE POSITIONS
BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE ACCORDING TO FRENCH REPORT. SOME RATHER CONFLICTING NEWS. (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) PARIS, September 12. The British Expeditionary Force has taken up battle positions. A London message states that although English newspapers today describe .English artillery and mechanised forces advancing against the Germans, the Ministry of Information has announced that, while English troops have landed in France, these troops are not yet in action. No further details can be furnished meantime. PORTENTS OF BATTLE GERMANS RUSHING UP ARTILLERY. BRITISH SOLDIERS ENTER MAGINOT LINE. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) PARIS, September 12. Germany is rushing heavy artillery to the West Wall. The French have consolidated their methodical gains. British troops who are entering subterranean passages far from the front, are having their first glimpse of the Maginot Line, in much greater security than the “Old Contemptibles,” who had to face shot and shell along exposed roads. France has annexed the British marching song “Boompadaisy,” which is likely to become the “Tipperary” of the present campaign.
