OPAKI FOOTBALL CLUB

WIND-UP OF SEASON. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The Opaki Football Club held a very pleasant social on Saturday night to wind-up the season, and to present various trophies. Members of the Old Boys, Carterton and Red Star clubs were present. Following the toast ol the King, Mr Frank Morton proposed the toast of the Opaki Club, to which Mr Ivan Larsen (captain) responded. Mr R. Gorringe proposed the visitors to which Messrs Dick Clarke and .1 Van Praagh replied. Mr J. Dwyer pro posed the toast of ’-Kindred Clubs," and congratulated the Carterton juni ors on winning the Pearson Cup. Mi J. Steffert. the popular skipper of the Carterton juniors, in returning thanks said that they always enjoyed game: with the Opaki team, whom they full} expected to win the Pearson Cup, but as luck was against them, he .hoped they would do better next season and win the championship. The health o' early players was proposed by Mr M Welch and replied to by Messrs Ron Jeffcoat. Hec Allen and Bob White man. The chairman then presented th< trophies. Mr G. Vincent’s trophy wen to lan Howie as the best all round forward and Gordon McKenzie gainer the Club’s trophy for the most consis tent player. Both players expresser their thanks and hoped to be in the field next season. Mr Jim Dwyer, th' Club’s popular coach, was presentee with a Gillett safety razor and blade as an appreciation of his good work throughout the season. In returning; thanks Mr Dwyer said that he valued the gift very much and if the players wanted him, he would be with then next, season. The Opaki captain, lan Larsen, the’ - presented Mr Mot Welch with ai Onoto fountain pen and pencil and in doing so, said they all realised th?' there would be no Opaki Club were r not for their old secretary, who alway managed to keep the boys together. Ir replying Mr Welch said what he di' for them was a labour of love, as he knew his work was appreciated by on' and all. Mixing with the bovs had ken him young and he hoped the old did would be in existence next season. The meeting closed with a heart' vole of thanks to Mr N. Gibbs for hi' kindness in attending lhe requirement' of the club.
