TRAMWAY BOARD
PROPOSAL TO POSTPONE ELECTION. (By Telegraph—Press* Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. It is now unlikely that an election for the Christchurch Tramway Board, set down for November next, will be held. Both parties concerned, the Labour Party and the Citizens’ Association. have agreed that it would not be in the public interest to hold an election during a time of crisis. As the parties are agreed, it now remains for the Government to take the necessary legislative action to postpone the election and extend the period of the membership of the present personnel of the board. The present members of the board arc:—Mr J. Mathison (chairman) the Hon J. K. Archer, Messrs R. M. Macfarlane, H. E. Denton. G. Manning, E. Parlane, J. Barr, W. J .Walter and A. A. McLachlan. With the exception of Mr Walter (Independent) and Mr McLachlan (Citizens’ Association) all members of the board belong to the Labour Party. Owing to his appointment as president of the Assessment court, Mr McLachlan will not retain his scat on the board and, in accordance with an agreement reached by the two parties, he will be replaced by a member of the Citizens' Association.
