PETROL SUPPLIES
adoption of coupon SYSTEM. CONDITIONS OUTLINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Arrangements for the issue of the ration of 10 gallons of petrol a month to private car owners were announced last night by the Oil Fuel Controller. This is to be done by the use of a simple coupon system. The controller explained that registered owners of private cars desiring to obtain petrol should first of all procure supplies of coupons from the post office where they obtained the current year’s number plates. They will be required to give the current registration number of their car and to sign the official record card in the post office, before being issued with coupons. The coupons will be issued in sets numbered from one to 48, and an announcement will be made before the beginning of each’month giving the coupon numbers for which petrol will be supplied in that month. Each coupon will entitle the holder to purchase two gallons of petrol from any petrol station during the month for which it applies. The controller stated that for the present month coupons 1 to 3 would be accepted, and those coupons would not be accepted after the end of September. Motor-cyclists would be able to receive special coupons in the same way as car owners, but in their case each coupon would entitle them to purchase one gallon only, or half the amount allowed to cars. Coupons 1 to 3 would apply to this class also for September. Each set of coupons will go with the car or motor-cycle for which it is, issued, so that in cases of a sale or trade-in, the coupons should be handed over with the vehicle. Purchasers of second-hand vehicles should make sure that they obtain the necessary coupons with the vehicles. Supplies of coupons, which will be available for issue as from Friday next, may be obtained for all private cars and any business cars used for private purposes.
