HAWKE’S BAY SHOW

SCHEDULE OF CLASSES. The slogan “Business as usual” applies to the Hawke’s Baj r Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s activities and its Spring Show will this year be held on October 18 and 19 next. The schedule is now available and copies may be obtained on application to the secretary (Mr. A. M. Retemeyer) Church Lane, Napier. As in the past, the schedule is most comprehensive and in addition to full sections for all classes of horses, cattle, sheep and pigs, sections are included for fleece wool, poultry, bread, butter, bacon, woodwork, needle and art work and knitting, also dogs. The latter section is under the control of the Hawke’s Bay Kennel Association (Mr. R. A. Sloan, hon. secretary, 308 Ellison Road, Hastings), and for which a separate schedule is issued. Since the inception of the shows on the Tomoana Grounds, year by year the society has expended considerable sums on improvements and since the last spring show 108 covered stalls have been added for light horses which no doubt will be appreciated by exhibitors in that section, and with boxes on the grounds for light horses from outside districts, exhibitors are particularly well catered for.

For the coming show, exhibitors in the beef cattle section are particularly well catered for by the addition of the Sir Douglas McLean Memorial Cup. value seventy guineas, for most points, and in the Aberdeen Angus section in addition to added cash prizes of £l6 16s. two valuable cups have been added since the issue of the schedule, one for two-year-old bull and the other for bull and female two years and upwards to be judged as a group of two. the latter cup carrying a miniature cup each year until won outright. The Meat and Wool Cup for best registered purebred beef animal will again be competed for this year. Entries close on September 27.
