MINIATURE RIFLES

MASTERTON CLUB .SEASON BROUGHT TO A CLOSE. P. RUSSELL WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. The Masterton Miniature Rifles Club brought its 1939 season to a close last Saturday afternoon and evening with the championship contest. An attendance of 36 members demonstrated the enthusiasm this popular shoot creates. The day’s shooting comprised three ten shot matches with the ten highest scorers firing a further 10 shots, which was added to the three proceeding scores. Members were divided into A, B and junior grades, whilst the lady members contested their championship. By outstanding shooting, Mr P. Russell" successfully defended his title of clitb champion and his scoring of 37 bullseyes out of the 40 shots fired was well received by his fellow members. Mr B. R. Jenkins was runner-jip, being 1 point behind. The title of “lady champion” was retained by Mrs King, with a score of 295 x 400, with Miss J. Dixon as run-ner-up. In the B grade, Miss J. Dixon had a comfortable win over Miss Olliver, who filled second place. Excellent scoring was a feature of the junior grade section, when Mr K. Lambert was finally declared the winner, whose score of 290 x 300 was 2 points better than the runner-up, P. Martel.

The handicap aggregate was won by a first season’s shot, Mrs Clayton, who shot splendidly throughout the day. Members partook of supper during which Mr R. J. King presented the trophies won by the various members.
