FAVOURITE FOR DERBY. HIGH CASTE SUPPLANTED BY BEAU VITE. By Telegraph—Prdss Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. As a result of his great effort in the Chelmsford Stakes Beau Vite has ousted High Caste from Derby favouritism, and has been made joint favourite with Defaulter for the Melbourne Cup. Royal Chief now shares Metropolitan favouritism with Cooranga. The “Herald” says: “Beau Vite proved himself a great colt, possessing stamina and great determination, which are two necessary attributes for a Derby candidate.”

Commenting on Royal Chief’s dis play in the Chelmsford Stakes the “Herald” says: “Royal Chief won the Metropolitan last year and seems to have every chance of repeating the performance.” Defaulter has been physicked and will not run in the Hill Stakes at Rosehill next Saturday.
