REPORTED MISSING

THREE TARANAKI PILOTS. IN AIR FORCE OPERATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, September 10. Since the outbreak of war three Taranaki pilots have been reported missing as the result of Royal Air Force operations. Flying Officer Laurence Edwards, whose parents live in Patea, was the first casualty, advice being received the day after the raid on Wilhelmshaven. Yesterday advice was received that Pilot Officer Cerdic Whittington, formerly of Hawera and New Plymouth, was missing and was believed to have lost his life. Today the parents of Pilot Officer Bruce Clifford-Jones, Mr and Mrs H. C. Clifford-Jones, New Plymouth, received a cablegram that their son was missing. Pilot Officer Clifl'ord-Jones was a Taranaki tennis champion and reached the semi-finals of this year’s Royal Air Force tournament at Wimbledon.
